Civil engineering
UPDA registration, examination and grading for this discipline.
UPDA registration is required under Qatar Law No. 19 of 2005 for any engineer practising in the country, and it is linked to visa approval. Engineers are classified into four grades by post-qualification experience, and only registered professional engineers may sign and seal engineering plans. Registration renews every 3 years.
We hold no confirmed figure for either the registration or the examination fee, and we will not estimate them.

Required under Qatar Law No. 19 of 2005 for any engineer practising in Qatar. That is a statutory requirement rather than an industry convention, and it covers civil, mechanical and electrical engineers among other disciplines.
Registration is linked to visa approval.
Engineers from universities not on the approved list must obtain an equivalency certificate before becoming eligible to register. Establish this before you spend anything else.
Degree certificates require Ministry of Foreign Affairs attestation. Attestation is a chain performed in the country that issued the document, and it has an order you cannot shortcut.
25-27 questions in 60 minutes, 4 marks per answer, pass mark 13 correct out of 25. There is no negative marking and results are announced immediately.
Grading is by post-qualification experience and decides what you may sign for. Registration renews every 3 years.
Grading is by post-qualification experience and it decides the scope of what you may sign for. Applying at the right one matters.
[VERIFY: UPDA end-to-end registration timeline. Obtain from MME before publishing a range.]
We will not borrow another council's timeline and present it as Qatar's. What we can state from the published process is where the time actually goes, and it is not the examination: results are announced immediately.
The two stages that add weeks are equivalency, where your university is not on the approved list, and MOFA attestation of your degree, which is performed in the country that issued it. Both happen before you are eligible to sit the exam, and neither is within the council's control or yours.
The renewal cycle is firm: every 3 years.
Qatar publishes its list, which makes this one of the few councils where we can tell you exactly what to assemble rather than what is typical.
Add an equivalency certificate where your university is not on the approved list. That is not on the standard list because it does not apply to everyone, but for those it does apply to it gates the whole application.
[VERIFY: UPDA published rejection reasons. No authority-specific list has been sourced.]
Two failure modes are specific to Qatar and both are visible in the published requirements. The first is attestation: a degree certificate without MOFA attestation is not a document the council can act on. The second is eligibility, where an engineer from a university outside the approved list applies without the equivalency certificate that makes them eligible in the first place.
The third, which is not a rejection but costs the same, is sitting the examination underprepared. There is no negative marking and the pass mark is 13 correct out of 25, so the arithmetic is unforgiving in one direction only: you cannot lose marks by guessing, but you can fail by leaving questions blank.
Every authority we do hold figures for is itemised on the costs page.

The examination lasts 1 hour and results are announced immediately, whichever discipline you sit it in.
Yes. Required under Qatar Law No. 19 of 2005 for any engineer practising in Qatar. Registration is linked to visa approval. It is not a professional membership you can defer: it is tied to your right to be in the country working as an engineer.
25-27 questions in 60 minutes, worth 4 marks each, with a pass mark of 13 correct out of 25. There is no negative marking, so an unanswered question scores the same as a wrong one and there is no reason to leave any blank. Results are announced immediately.
By post-qualification experience: Trainee at 0-5 years, Grade C at 5-7 years, Grade B at 7-10 years, Grade A at 10+ years. The grade is not cosmetic. Only registered Professional Engineers may sign and seal engineering plans.
We hold no confirmed figure for the registration or examination fees and will not estimate them. Obtain the current schedule from the ministry directly. Every other figure we publish carries a source and a review date, and this one will too once we can confirm it.
Engineers from universities not on the approved list must obtain an equivalency certificate before becoming eligible to register. Whether yours is on the list is the first thing to establish, because an equivalency ruling is a separate process with its own timeline and it gates everything after it.
Every 3 years. That is a shorter cycle than several Gulf registrations, and because registration is linked to visa approval, letting it lapse is not a paperwork problem you can deal with later.
Supporting credentials such as PMP, REVIT, Other recognised training credentials are not required. They are recognised supporting evidence rather than a substitute for the qualifications and experience the grade is assessed on.
