SCFHS Licensing, Saudi Arabia

An SCFHS registration is the professional licence you need to practise healthcare anywhere in Saudi Arabia. It is issued by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, a single national authority, and applies to doctors, dentists, pharmacists, nurses and allied health professionals. Verification must clear before the application is even submitted.

What does SCFHS registration cost?

Verification is the figure we can source and publish. The authority's own examination and registration fees are not, and we will not estimate them.

Who needs an SCFHS licence?

Every healthcare professional practising in Saudi Arabia, anywhere in the country. Unlike the UAE, there is no second regulator to check for and no free zone carve-out.

  • Doctors and dentists across every recognised specialty
  • Nurses and midwives
  • Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
  • Physiotherapists and other allied health professionals
  • Laboratory technicians and radiographers

Why does classification decide so much?

Classification level (general practitioner, specialist or consultant) materially affects salary and must be applied for correctly at registration.

Applying at the correct level is the single highest-value decision in a Saudi application, and it is made at registration rather than negotiated later. The published market bands below show why the distinction is not academic.

General practitioner
USD 4,000-7,000 per month
Specialist
USD 7,000-12,000 per month
Consultant
USD 12,000-20,000 per month

What is the SCFHS licensing process?

  1. Step 01

    Establish your classification

General practitioner, specialist or consultant. This is decided at registration, it materially affects what you can be employed as, and correcting it afterwards is far harder than getting it right first time.

  2. Step 02

Primary source verification, before the application

DataFlow verification must be complete before the registration application is submitted, which is a sequencing difference from some UAE authorities. Standard verification takes 15-25 working days from the date of payment and submission of a complete set of documents.

  3. Step 03

    Examination, by profession and specialty

A Prometric assessment set for your profession and specialty. [VERIFY: SCFHS examination fees by profession. Obtain from SCFHS before publishing any figure.]

  4. Step 04

    Registration, then renewal

Registration with SCFHS, then the professional classification card and renewal cycle that follows it. The licence is valid only in Saudi Arabia and cannot be transferred.

How long does SCFHS licensing take?

Typically 6-10 months. Five-stage process. Considerably longer than UAE licensing.

That is months rather than weeks, and it is the expectation to set before anything else. A candidate planning a Saudi move on a UAE timetable will miss a start date. Verification alone runs 15-25 working days, and it has to finish before the application begins.

The practical implication is that the document set has to be right the first time. There is no stage of this process where a returned submission costs you only a few days.

What documents are required?

SCFHS does not publish a checklist we have been able to source. The set below is what every GCC health authority asks for and is what to start assembling.

  • Passport and photograph
  • Degree certificate and transcriptsAttested in the country that issued them.
  • Postgraduate and specialty qualificationsThese carry more weight here than anywhere, because they decide classification.
  • Current professional registration or licence
  • Good standing certificateGCC authorities generally require one under six months old at submission.
  • Experience certificatesSigned by HR or the medical director. Experience evidence drives classification, so completeness matters.

Why are SCFHS applications rejected?

[VERIFY: SCFHS published rejection reasons. No authority-specific list has been sourced.]

What we can say from the process itself is that the two failure modes with the largest consequences here are sequencing and classification. Submitting the application before verification has cleared stalls the file, and applying at a classification your evidence does not support means either a refusal or a registration at a level you did not want.

Beyond those, the documentary failures are the ones common across GCC health authorities, documented for DHA:

  • Good standing certificate older than six months
  • Experience certificates not signed by HR or the medical director
  • Qualification not matching the DHA Professional Qualification Requirements for the applied title
  • Incomplete or illegible document scans
  • Mismatch between passport name and certificate names

What else do people ask about SCFHS?

How long does SCFHS registration take?

Typically 6-10 months. Five-stage process. Considerably longer than UAE licensing. If you are comparing against the UAE, that is the single most important practical difference: a DHA application typically runs 4-12 weeks, so plan a Saudi move on a different horizon entirely.

Why does classification matter so much?

Because it is applied for at registration and it determines the title you can be employed under. Classification level materially affects salary, and being registered a tier below what your experience supports is difficult and slow to correct afterwards. It is the part of a Saudi application worth the most care.

Can I use my SCFHS licence in the UAE?

No. An SCFHS licence is valid only in Saudi Arabia and cannot be transferred to the UAE. Each GCC state registers separately. What can often be reused is the verification report, which saves both the fee and the waiting on a second application.

What does SCFHS registration cost?

Verification runs SAR 1,200-1,800, approximately 320-480 US dollars. SCFHS examination and registration fees are not figures we have been able to source, so we publish none. Our advisory fee is separate and quoted per case.

Does Saudi Arabia have more than one health regulator?

No, and this is a genuine simplification compared with the UAE. Saudi Arabia operates a single centralised licensing authority, unlike the UAE where Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the northern emirates each license separately. One application covers the whole country.

Do I need verification before I apply, or alongside?

Before. DataFlow primary source verification must be complete before the registration application is submitted. Treating them as parallel tracks is a common sequencing error and it costs weeks, because the application simply will not proceed.

Is the process really five stages?

Yes, and that is why it takes months rather than weeks. Each stage gates the next, so a document problem at stage two does not delay stage two, it delays everything after it. Getting the document set right before anything is submitted is worth more here than anywhere else in the Gulf.
