SCFHS Licence for Physiotherapists

An SCFHS registration is what permits a physiotherapist to practise anywhere in Saudi Arabia. Verification must be complete before the registration application is submitted, which is difficult where your country operates no physiotherapy registration body and your good standing evidence is therefore not a standard certificate.

What do you submit if nobody registers physiotherapists at home?

Physiotherapy is regulated in some countries and not in others, and that inconsistency is a bigger problem in a Saudi application than in a Gulf one you may have done before.

The reason is the sequence. Verification must be complete before the registration application is submitted, so a question about what evidence is acceptable has to be answered at the start, not resolved with the authority as your file is assessed. If you plan to work out the good standing substitute later, you have planned to stall.

Put the question to SCFHS before you begin: my country does not register physiotherapists, what do you accept in place of a good standing certificate. There is normally a route, often involving employer or professional body attestation, but you want it identified while you are still gathering rather than after verification has closed.

The corollary is also worth acting on. Where your country does register physiotherapists, that registration is an asset in a Saudi file and should be central to it.

What does SCFHS require of physiotherapists?

SCFHS assesses physiotherapy applications against its requirements for the relevant classification, and qualification level is what maps onto title.

As with every Saudi application, your evidence has to be complete before verification rather than supplied as the authority requests it.

  • A recognised physiotherapy qualification
  • Current registration or licence, where your country issues one
  • Post-qualification clinical experience evidenced by signed certificates
  • An agreed alternative to good standing, where no registering body exists in your country
  • [VERIFY: which physiotherapy qualification levels SCFHS maps to which classifications, and what it accepts in place of good standing where no registering body exists.]

What exam do physiotherapists take?

A Prometric assessment set for physiotherapy, and potentially for your area of practice where you are registering under a specialty.

Confirm the sequence relative to verification before booking anything non-refundable.

[VERIFY: SCFHS examination blueprint, question count, duration and pass mark for this profession and its specialties. Obtain from SCFHS before publishing any figure.]

Why no single question count applies across professions, and what to ask your authority instead, is covered on our Prometric explainer.

What documents do physiotherapists need?

What to assemble, with the items specific to physiotherapists marked by what they have to establish.

  • Passport and photograph to the authority specification
  • Physiotherapy qualification certificate, attestedThe level of this award is what maps onto your classification.
  • Academic transcriptsRelevant where SCFHS assesses programme content and length.
  • Current professional registration, where your country issues oneWhere it exists, make it central to the file. Where it does not, agree the substitute first.
  • Good standing certificate or its agreed alternativeSettle which applies to you before verification begins, not after.
  • Experience certificates signed by HR or a director
  • Postgraduate or specialty training certificates, where held

Good standing must come from the body that registers physiotherapists in your country, where one exists, and GCC authorities generally accept one only while it is under six months old. The sequencing trap is explained on our good standing guide.

How much does it cost for physiotherapists?

Regulator and third-party fees only, paid by you directly to the authority or provider. Where a row reads Not published we hold no sourced figure and will not estimate one.

SCFHS publishes no allied health verification band. Unlike DHA, which quotes a lower fixed package for nurses and allied health, the SCFHS figure on file is one range covering every profession.

Our advisory fee is not published. It is quoted per case, in writing, after a free eligibility consultation, because it depends on your title, how many credentials need verifying and whether attestation applies. The costs page explains what moves that number.

How long does it take?

Typically 6-10 months for SCFHS licensing overall. Five-stage process. Considerably longer than UAE licensing.

Six to ten months across five stages. For physiotherapists from unregulated jurisdictions, add the time it takes to agree an acceptable good standing substitute, and do that before the clock starts rather than during it.

Where your registration is straightforward, the file moves at the standard Saudi pace and the sequence rather than the profession sets the duration.

Verification itself runs 15-25 working days from the date of payment and submission of a complete set of documents, and a resubmission costs 50 to 100 percent of the original fee. See DataFlow verification.

This page covers physiotherapists under SCFHS specifically. The authority, the sibling professions and the same profession elsewhere in the Gulf are covered separately.

What else do physiotherapists ask?

My country does not register physiotherapists. What do I do?

Ask SCFHS what it accepts in place of a good standing certificate, and ask before you start. The Saudi sequence requires verification to complete before you apply, so an unresolved evidence question at the start becomes a stalled file rather than a query answered mid-process.

Does qualification level decide my title here too?

Qualification level maps onto classification across the Gulf. What SCFHS specifically requires at each level we hold no sourced statement of, so we will not give you one. Establish it before building a plan around a title.

Is there a lower verification fee for allied health, as there is at DHA?

Not that we can source. DHA quotes a lower fixed package for nurses and allied health; SCFHS publishes one verification range on file covering all professions. We will not assume a band that is not published.

How long should I plan for?

Six to ten months, across five sequential stages. That is a structural feature of the Saudi process rather than a backlog, so it is not something that shortens if you apply at a quieter time.

Can I hold both a Saudi and a UAE registration?

Yes, but as two separate registrations. An SCFHS licence is valid only in Saudi Arabia. Each is its own application with its own fee, though the verification report underneath can often be reused.

Does experience make up for a lower qualification level?

Generally not in this kind of assessment. Classification is assessed from qualification, and experience evidences practice rather than substituting for the award. On a six to ten month process it is better to know that before you start than after.
