SCFHS Licence for Pharmacists

An SCFHS registration is what permits a pharmacist to practise anywhere in Saudi Arabia. Verification must be complete before the registration application is submitted, which for pharmacy means the internship and registration evidence has to be found and verified at the start rather than produced when asked for.

Can you evidence your pre-registration period before you apply?

Pharmacy files carry one document that is routinely missing and routinely slow to obtain, and the Saudi sequence puts it on the critical path rather than in the middle of the process.

In most systems the pharmacist title rests on a supervised pre-registration or internship period completed after the degree. That period is documented separately, by a training site or a council rather than the university, and applicants often discover years later that they never held the certificate themselves.

In a UAE application you can sometimes chase it while other stages run. In Saudi Arabia you cannot: verification must be complete before the registration application is submitted, and a credential you cannot produce is a credential that cannot be verified. The file waits.

Start with a blunt inventory. If you cannot lay hands on your internship completion evidence today, that is the first task of the project, not a detail for later.

What does SCFHS require of pharmacists?

SCFHS assesses pharmacy applications against its requirements for each classification, and the pharmacist and pharmacy technician titles carry different requirements and different scopes.

As with every Saudi application, the evidence has to be complete before verification rather than assembled as the authority asks for it.

  • A recognised pharmacy qualification
  • Current registration with the pharmacy council or authority you practise under
  • Evidence of supervised pre-registration or internship, where your system required it
  • Post-qualification experience evidenced by signed certificates
  • [VERIFY: the qualifications and experience SCFHS requires for the pharmacist title against the pharmacy technician title, and the classification levels within each.]

What exam do pharmacists take?

A Prometric assessment set for pharmacy, and set differently by title. Sitting the assessment for the wrong title is a non-refundable error.

Establish where the examination sits relative to verification before booking, because the Saudi sequence differs from the UAE one.

[VERIFY: SCFHS examination blueprint, question count, duration and pass mark for this profession and its specialties. Obtain from SCFHS before publishing any figure.]

Why no single question count applies across professions, and what to ask your authority instead, is covered on our Prometric explainer.

What documents do pharmacists need?

What to assemble, with the items specific to pharmacists marked by what they have to establish.

  • Passport and photograph to the authority specification
  • Pharmacy degree or diploma, attestedAttested in the country that issued it, before verification begins.
  • Academic transcripts
  • Current pharmacy council registrationFrom the pharmacy regulator, not from an employer or a pharmacy chain.
  • Pre-registration or internship completion evidenceThe item most likely to be missing and the hardest to obtain retrospectively. Find it before anything else.
  • Good standing certificate from your pharmacy councilRequest late in the sequence so it is still valid when your file is assessed.
  • Experience certificates signed at director level

Good standing must come from the pharmacy council or authority holding your registration, and GCC authorities generally accept one only while it is under six months old. The sequencing trap is explained on our good standing guide.

How much does it cost for pharmacists?

Regulator and third-party fees only, paid by you directly to the authority or provider. Where a row reads Not published we hold no sourced figure and will not estimate one.

SCFHS publishes no profession-specific verification band, so the single range on file applies to pharmacy as to every other profession. No SCFHS examination or registration fee is on file at all.

Our advisory fee is not published. It is quoted per case, in writing, after a free eligibility consultation, because it depends on your title, how many credentials need verifying and whether attestation applies. The costs page explains what moves that number.

How long does it take?

Typically 6-10 months for SCFHS licensing overall. Five-stage process. Considerably longer than UAE licensing.

Six to ten months, and the pharmacy-specific risk sits right at the front of it. An internship certificate that takes two months to track down is two months added to a process that was already long.

The rest of a pharmacy file is usually straightforward: one qualification, one registration, a manageable employment history. The clock is set by the sequence, not by the complexity.

Verification itself runs 15-25 working days from the date of payment and submission of a complete set of documents, and a resubmission costs 50 to 100 percent of the original fee. See DataFlow verification.

This page covers pharmacists under SCFHS specifically. The authority, the sibling professions and the same profession elsewhere in the Gulf are covered separately.

What else do pharmacists ask?

What if I cannot find my internship certificate?

Start looking today rather than at submission. It is issued by a training site or council rather than your university, and reconstructing it years later is the slowest single task in a pharmacy file. Because Saudi verification must complete before you apply, a missing credential stops the process rather than delaying one stage of it.

Is the pharmacist and technician distinction the same in Saudi Arabia?

They are separate titles with separate requirements, as they are across the Gulf. What SCFHS specifically requires for each we hold no sourced statement of, so we will not give you one. Establish it with SCFHS before building a file around a title.

Can I start the application while waiting for documents?

Not usefully. Verification must be complete before the registration application is submitted, and verification cannot complete on documents that have not been supplied. The Saudi sequence rewards having everything before you begin.

What does SCFHS registration cost for pharmacists?

We hold a verification figure and nothing else. There is no SCFHS examination or registration fee on file, and we will not estimate one. The verification range is published on this page and applies across professions.

Will a Saudi pharmacy registration help me move to the UAE?

Not directly. An SCFHS licence is valid only in Saudi Arabia. A UAE move means a fresh application to the relevant emirate authority, although the verification report underneath it can often be reused.

Is there a single Saudi authority or several?

One. Saudi Arabia operates a single centralised licensing authority, unlike the UAE where Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the northern emirates license separately. There is no free zone regulator to check for either.
