DHA Licence for Pharmacists
A DHA licence for pharmacists is the registration you need to dispense on Dubai mainland. The question that decides your application is which title your qualification supports: pharmacist and pharmacy technician are separate registrations with separate scopes of practice, and they are not interchangeable.
Pharmacist or pharmacy technician?
These are two different registrations, not two grades of one. They carry different scopes of practice, different assessments and different employment consequences, and an applicant licensed as a technician cannot practise as a pharmacist by agreement with an employer.
Which one your file supports depends on your qualification and, in most systems, on whether you completed a supervised pre-registration or internship period. That period is frequently the item a file is missing, because it is documented separately from the degree and applicants forget it exists.
Establish the title before anything else. It changes the assessment you sit and the evidence you need to assemble.
What does DHA require of pharmacists?
DHA assesses pharmacy applications against its published qualification requirements for each title. A pharmacy degree alone does not automatically establish the pharmacist title if the supporting registration or internship evidence is absent.
Run the free Sheryan self-assessment first. For pharmacy it is the cheapest way to establish which of the two titles your qualification and registration actually support.
- A recognised pharmacy qualification
- Current registration with the pharmacy council or authority you practise under
- Evidence of supervised pre-registration or internship, where your system requires it
- Post-qualification experience evidenced by signed certificates
- [VERIFY: the qualification and experience DHA requires for the pharmacist title against the pharmacy technician title.]
What exam do pharmacists take?
A Prometric assessment set for pharmacy, and set differently for the pharmacist and pharmacy technician titles. Sitting the wrong one is a wasted non-refundable fee.
Some qualifications and titles are exempt. Confirm your position before booking.
[VERIFY: DHA examination blueprint, question count, duration and pass mark for this profession and its specialties. Obtain from DHA before publishing any figure.]
Why no single question count applies across professions, and what to ask your authority instead, is covered on our Prometric explainer.
What documents do pharmacists need?
What to assemble, with the items specific to pharmacists marked by what they have to establish.
- Passport and photograph to the authority specification
- Pharmacy degree or diploma, attestedAttested in the country that issued it.
- Academic transcripts
- Current pharmacy council registrationFrom the pharmacy regulator, not from an employer or a pharmacy chain.
- Good standing certificate from your pharmacy councilLess than six months old at submission.
- Pre-registration or internship completion evidenceDocumented separately from the degree, and commonly the missing item in a pharmacy file.
- Experience certificates signed by HR or the pharmacy manager at director levelA supervising pharmacist signature is often returned.
Good standing must come from the pharmacy council or authority holding your registration, and GCC authorities generally accept one only while it is under six months old. The sequencing trap is explained on our good standing guide.
How much does it cost for pharmacists?
Regulator and third-party fees only, paid by you directly to the authority or provider. Where a row reads Not published we hold no sourced figure and will not estimate one.
| Item | Fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Primary source verification | AED 1,150-1,500 | Varies with number of credentials submitted. Fixed packages also quoted at AED 1,235 doctors / AED 935 nurses and allied health. |
| Fixed verification package | Not published | [VERIFY: whether DHA quotes a fixed verification package for pharmacists, and at what figure.] |
| Examination | USD 180-300 | By profession and specialty. Non-refundable; full fee payable on each reattempt. |
| Application | AED 1,000-2,000 | |
| Good standing certificate | AED 100-500 | Varies by issuing country. Must be less than 6 months old at submission. |
| Total government fees | AED 4,400-8,100 |
DHA names two fixed verification packages, one for doctors and one for nurses and allied health. Pharmacy is not named in either, so we do not tell you which band applies. The general published range covers your case and the fixed package question is one to put to DHA directly.
Our advisory fee is not published. It is quoted per case, in writing, after a free eligibility consultation, because it depends on your title, how many credentials need verifying and whether attestation applies. The costs page explains what moves that number.
How long does it take?
Typically 4-12 weeks for DHA licensing overall. Dependent on how quickly primary source verification clears.
Pharmacy timelines usually turn on the internship or pre-registration evidence. It is issued by a training site or a council rather than a university, and tracking it down years later takes longer than people expect.
If your qualification and registration are straightforward, a pharmacy application moves at the same pace as any other DHA file: verification sets the clock.
Verification itself runs 15-25 working days from the date of payment and submission of a complete set of documents, and a resubmission costs 50 to 100 percent of the original fee. See DataFlow verification.
Where does this sit in the wider process?
This page covers pharmacists under DHA specifically. The authority, the sibling professions and the same profession elsewhere in the Gulf are covered separately.
- DHA licensing in Dubai, the authority page for every profession
- DHA licence for laboratory technicians, a comparable clinical or allied route
- DHA licence for nurses, a comparable clinical or allied route
- Healthcare licensing across the GCC, if the country is not settled yet
What else do pharmacists ask?
What is the difference between pharmacist and pharmacy technician registration?
They are separate registrations with separate scopes of practice and separate assessments. A technician registration does not permit practice as a pharmacist, and the difference is not something an employer can vary by agreement. Which one your qualification supports is the first thing to establish.
Do I need my internship certificate?
If your system required a supervised pre-registration or internship period, expect to evidence it. It is documented separately from your degree, by the training site or council rather than the university, and it is one of the items applicants most often discover they cannot immediately find.
Which verification package applies to pharmacists?
We do not know. DHA names fixed packages for doctors and for nurses and allied health. Pharmacy is not named in either, and we will not assign you to a band on an assumption. The general published verification range is on this page and applies regardless.
Can I sit the examination before my documents are verified?
Check the sequence with DHA for your title rather than assuming. The sequencing differs between authorities and getting it wrong wastes weeks rather than money.
Does this licence let me work in a hospital pharmacy and a retail pharmacy?
The licence attaches to your title and to the facility employing you. Whether a move between hospital and community practice requires anything further is a question for DHA about your specific registration, and it is worth asking before you accept a role that assumes it.
Does a DHA licence cover Dubai Healthcare City?
No. DHCC is regulated separately by DHCR. If the pharmacy named in your offer is inside the free zone, you need a DHCR professional licence instead, and a DHA licence does not substitute for it.
