DHA Licence for Physiotherapists
A DHA licence for physiotherapists is the registration you need to practise on Dubai mainland. Physiotherapy falls in the allied health verification band, the lower of the two fixed packages DHA quotes. What decides your application is qualification level, because it determines whether you are licensed as a physiotherapist or at a technician title.
Does your qualification level support the physiotherapist title?
Physiotherapy is one of the professions where qualification level maps directly onto title, and where applicants are most often surprised by the result.
A diploma, a bachelor's degree and a master's degree do not all support the same registration. The title you are licensed under sets what you may do unsupervised and what a clinic may employ you as, and it is assessed from your qualification rather than from your years in practice.
Experience does not substitute for qualification level in this assessment, which is a hard thing to hear after a decade of practice. Establish where your qualification places you before you build a plan around a title it does not support.
What does DHA require of physiotherapists?
DHA assesses physiotherapy applications against its published qualification requirements, which set out which qualification levels support which allied health titles.
The free Sheryan self-assessment is the fastest way to resolve this. For physiotherapists it answers the title question directly, before any fee is paid.
- A recognised physiotherapy qualification
- Current registration or licence, where your country regulates physiotherapy
- Post-qualification clinical experience evidenced by signed certificates
- Specialty or post-graduate training, where you are applying under a specialist title
- [VERIFY: which physiotherapy qualification levels DHA maps to which titles, and the minimum post-qualification experience at each.]
What exam do physiotherapists take?
A Prometric assessment set for physiotherapy. Where you are applying under a specialist title the paper may be set for that specialty.
Some qualifications and titles are exempt from assessment. Establish your position before booking, because the fee is non-refundable.
[VERIFY: DHA examination blueprint, question count, duration and pass mark for this profession and its specialties. Obtain from DHA before publishing any figure.]
Why no single question count applies across professions, and what to ask your authority instead, is covered on our Prometric explainer.
What documents do physiotherapists need?
What to assemble, with the items specific to physiotherapists marked by what they have to establish.
- Passport and photograph to the authority specification
- Physiotherapy qualification certificate, attestedThe qualification level on this certificate is what decides your title.
- Academic transcriptsRelevant where DHA is assessing the content and length of your programme.
- Current professional registration, where your country issues oneNot every country regulates physiotherapy. Where yours does not, expect DHA to want alternative evidence.
- Good standing certificate, where a registering body existsLess than six months old at submission.
- Experience certificates signed by HR or a directorA senior physiotherapist signature is commonly returned.
- Postgraduate or specialty training certificates, where held
Good standing must come from the body that registers physiotherapists in your country, where one exists, and GCC authorities generally accept one only while it is under six months old. The sequencing trap is explained on our good standing guide.
How much does it cost for physiotherapists?
Regulator and third-party fees only, paid by you directly to the authority or provider. Where a row reads Not published we hold no sourced figure and will not estimate one.
| Item | Fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Primary source verification | AED 1,150-1,500 | Varies with number of credentials submitted. Fixed packages also quoted at AED 1,235 doctors / AED 935 nurses and allied health. |
| Fixed verification package | AED 935 | The band DHA quotes for nurses and allied health. |
| Examination | USD 180-300 | By profession and specialty. Non-refundable; full fee payable on each reattempt. |
| Application | AED 1,000-2,000 | |
| Good standing certificate | AED 100-500 | Varies by issuing country. Must be less than 6 months old at submission. |
| Total government fees | AED 4,400-8,100 |
Physiotherapy is an allied health profession, so the lower fixed verification package DHA quotes for nurses and allied health is the band that applies.
Our advisory fee is not published. It is quoted per case, in writing, after a free eligibility consultation, because it depends on your title, how many credentials need verifying and whether attestation applies. The costs page explains what moves that number.
How long does it take?
Typically 4-12 weeks for DHA licensing overall. Dependent on how quickly primary source verification clears.
Where your country does not operate a physiotherapy registration body, the good standing step becomes a question rather than a form. Resolving what DHA will accept instead is worth doing at the start rather than at submission.
Otherwise a physiotherapy application runs on the standard DHA clock, with verification setting the pace.
Verification itself runs 15-25 working days from the date of payment and submission of a complete set of documents, and a resubmission costs 50 to 100 percent of the original fee. See DataFlow verification.
Where does this sit in the wider process?
This page covers physiotherapists under DHA specifically. The authority, the sibling professions and the same profession elsewhere in the Gulf are covered separately.
- DHA licensing in Dubai, the authority page for every profession
- DHA licence for nurses, a comparable clinical or allied route
- DHA licence for radiographers, a comparable clinical or allied route
- Healthcare licensing across the GCC, if the country is not settled yet
What else do physiotherapists ask?
Will my diploma get me licensed as a physiotherapist?
Qualification level maps onto title, and a diploma, a bachelor's and a master's do not all support the same registration. We hold no sourced statement of where DHA draws each line, so we will not give you one. The free Sheryan self-assessment answers it for your specific qualification.
Does my experience make up for a lower qualification level?
Generally not in this assessment. Title is assessed from qualification, and experience evidences practice rather than substituting for the award. That is a difficult answer after years in practice, and it is better heard now than after paying a verification fee.
My country does not register physiotherapists. What do I use for good standing?
Ask DHA what it will accept in place of a certificate from a registering body. This is common and there is usually a route, but it is one to establish before submission rather than after a file is returned for a document that does not exist where you practise.
How much is verification for physiotherapists?
Physiotherapy is an allied health profession, so the lower of the two fixed packages DHA quotes applies, the band it describes as nurses and allied health. The figures are published on this page.
Can I apply before I have a clinic offer?
Yes. Eligibility and verification do not require an employer, and the licence attaches to a facility only at the final step.
Does a DHA licence cover Dubai Healthcare City?
No. DHCC is regulated separately by DHCR and a DHA licence is not valid inside it. A number of rehabilitation and sports medicine facilities sit in the free zone, so check the regulator named in your offer.
